After shanks disembarks Luffy's town, he goes to the Grand Line, and we never hear of him until several chapters later. We then catch a glimpse of Shanks as he sees Luffy's bounty which Mihawk presents to him (which he rejoices over). Then, after Crocodile is beaten, Shanks is up next in line to take his placea as one of the Seven Sea Knights, in which he has to fight it over with the white beard pirates, which is where we see him last (visiting them). Of course, we later find out that he is not at all interested (neither is Whitebeard for that matter). When Blackbeard shows up, Shanks goes to speak to Whitebeard to stop Ace from fighting him. The chapter ends with the fight ensueing, but we don't know the end result except that both survived. Later on, when in Impel Down, there is a report that Shanks has interepted one of the Yonkou, Kaidou - as he was on the way to stop Whitebeard saving Ace.
