• Appearance: Scar given by Whitebeard, Arm missing due to Luffy
• History: Used to work on Gol D. Roger's ship with Buggy

Whitebeard has apparently known Shanks since back when he worked on Roger's ship. Shanks is a respected and known pirate in the New World, however, he has not met Luffy since Luffy embarked with his crew. His scar was given to him, as he tells Whitebeard, by Blackbeard. His left arm was torn off by a sea monster when Luffy fell into the ocean.
